Playing
I'm not going to kid you; playing guitar is extremely difficult at best and almost downright impossible at worst. I am not just talking about picking up the guitar and playing a few songs I am talking about real practicing for the environment that you will eventually be playing in which is, of course, in an ensemble with other musicians who we hope will always be better than you.
In this world with all kinds of styles of music and bands, finding someone to teach you what you really dream of playing is kind of tough. The problem is finding a teacher wholl give you a good guitar lesson that doesnt include all the stuff that really doesnt matter when it comes down to just playing a song.
What's interesting is you can use the note intervals of whatever mode you're playing and use each note as a starting point for the next mode in sequence. The students who work hard on this area of their playing always do better than those who dont. Your playing will open up to a diverse range of styles.
Learning
I have found that learning to play guitar is like many other activities. The main considerations in choosing guitar gifts are experience level, style of music preferred, and what gear and learning material they already own. A person can get along fine these days by learning a few chords and knowing how to read tab, right. The traditional way of learning guitar is by taking private lessons from a guitar teacher.
The array of choices is staggering, ranging from free online guitar lessons, to high-end distance learning guitar instruction leading to a certificate from Berklee College of Music,. The best and easiest path to becoming a competent guitar player is by learning some chords and then applying them to learning the rhythm parts of songs. Chord Diagrams are the single most powerful tool for learning and improving your guitar playing.
Practice
There are many principles involved in an effective practice session and I think some of these are a motivation founded on a love and passion for the music you can produce on the guitar, an acceptance of the fact that you must practice on that technical level you have reached, a working knowledge of muscle tensions and how to minimize them when you play and how to work on reducing them when you don't play. Is there a best way to practice on your guitar? If you decide on an electric guitar, then you'll want to purchase a practice amp too.
The most basic requisite is that you want to learn this art and with this desire you will find ways to practice improvisation in all your guitar playing. For example, take a two bar passage in a classical guitar piece that you like and practice it until you master it and then memorize it. The remedy for this is of course to practice reading the sheet music without looking at the fretboard.
Tuning
By cleaning your strings you not only increase their tuning life but they will retain their crisp, bell-like tone for longer. Worn strings are by far the most common cause of a bad tone and contribute to a lot of tuning problems. I have always used pitch pipes, and great though automatic tuners are, you cannot beat the training given by tuning the guitar with just a pipe and your ears.
Some things on guitar can be learned in minutes, some in days, and others in weeks, but tuning will sometimes take even longer, because you have to train your ears. In order to keep the string in place during tuning (winding) put a 90 degree bend at the end of the string with a pair of pliers.

Undoubtedly, music CDs are one of the most popular ways to record and listen to the country music. New technology has made it very affordable to own a CD player and most avid music fans wouldnt be caught dead without one. Listening to your favorite country music CD has never been easier or more affordable. You can go to any music store or online music site and order all of your favorite country music.
Unfortunately, CD sales for country music and other forms of music have run into serious problems in the last few years because of piracy. As a matter of fact, in the last three years, the International Federation of Phonography Industry (FPI) reported that every CD that is sold is a pirate copy. The federation has reported that every third CD sold is a pirate copy.
Piracy has made the country music CD sales business more competitive, because if people are going to buy CDs, the prices have to be reasonable enough afford them. Its seems this is the case, as you can find great deals on Country Music CDs including sets like Time Warners, Classic Country: Great Story Songs for $199. This is an incredible buy considering you are purchasing 30 classic songs on 17 CDs, sung by country and western all time favorite singers.
There are hundreds of online music stores where you will find country and western CDs featuring all of your favorite singers. They usually offer special free shipping if you spend over $25, and they also usually run special daily deals. Many sights also offer you the opportunity to download your favorite music for as little as $.75 a song. Some popular CDs sold on site like www.amazon.com and www.buy.com include Johnny Cash, Man in black; Tim McGraws Greatest Hits; Faith Hill, Fireflies; and Merle Haggard, Live From Austin.

Can You Really Teach Yourself How to Play Guitar?
The answer to this question is yes. However, you need to remember that teaching yourself to play guitar is broken down into two categories. For instance, some people have a natural ability to learn to play instruments. These individuals can listen to a song on the radio, sit down with a guitar, and simply learn. However, the majority of people learn by watching, which is why sales for guitar-learning DVDs are on the rise.
The bottom line is that it is very possible to teach yourself how to play guitar but the key to your success will begin in understanding how you learn. If you are in the first category of being able to hear and then replicate great, but if you need some type of visual aid, you need to consider buying a good DVD for assistance. Remember, using some type of learning aid is not cheating, only enhancing.
If you want to play for personally enjoyment or to entertain friends and family, it is possible to teach yourself how to play guitar but you need to choose the right method. If you have never played before and want to use a DVD or even some type of instructional book or CD, then make sure you choose something geared toward a beginner. On the other hand, if you have some experience but want to build on your current skill, then you need aid that is more advanced.
Many professional guitarists have asked themselves the same question "Is it possible to teach yourself how to play guitar?" For some of these individuals, they have built lucrative careers based on self-taught guitar but some have gone on to take lessons or use a variety of teaching aids. Regardless, going the self-taught way offers a number of benefits in that you can learn to play at your pace but also using a method that works for you.
Just remember, when asking, "Is it possible to teach yourself how to play guitar", be realistic about your natural ability. If you do not have a natural ear for learning, there is nothing wrong with that. Therefore, pay attention to what you have to work with, understanding that we all have different abilities and ways of learning.
In teaching yourself how to play guitar, you also need to be fair to yourself on what you will and will not learn immediately. In other words, if you are expecting that you will sit down and within one hour be playing like Eric Clapton, it will not happen. Even if you have a natural ability for playing the guitar, it is going to take you time and hard work to hone your skill. Instead, you want to enjoy each learning session while not putting too much pressure on yourself to learn.
The bottom line, "Is it possible to teach yourself how to play guitar" - YES but be patient, choose the right type of guitar and music, and if necessary, use any number of quality learning aids now on the market. Before long, you will be playing beautiful music while having the gratification that you did much of the teaching on your own.

Learn Piano Blues
No matter what level of playing you're at now or which musical instruments you may know how to play, learn piano blues and you'll be much better off for it. As someone who spends a lot of time playing the saxophone and writing music I have found learning to play the piano invaluable for musical ideas, arranging for other instruments and just plain fun and relaxation. Not to mention being able to accompany other performers when the opportunity comes up.
Learn piano blues and you have also learned many other of your favorite rock and roll songs as well since that style developed out of blues music and so the two styles are harmonically very close.
Another great thing about being able to play some kind of blues piano is that you can learn a couple fairly easy patterns on each hand and as you become more comfortable with them before you know it you can quickly develop them into patterns that are slightly more technical and before you know it you're playing some very decent boogie woogie too.
The boogie style came directly out of the blues and is one of the best ways for a pianist to show what they can do. This style of blues with a bit of speed is very impressive.
I learned by standing behind and beside some of my piano player friends and just watched what they did with their hands. Watching from above you can really see what's going on with both hands and how these repetitive riffs are being executed.
It's amazing how easy it can be when you break it down and take it slow. Then, like anything else, with a little daily practise comes the speed and dexterity. Sure, kids usually pick it up quicker than adults but anyone who has the desire to learn can do it regardless of age.
So, learning to play blues music on the piano is not only very basic technically but is also a great spring board for other styles like gospel and jazz. Even if you only learn to play the blues think of the fun you'll have next time there's a jam session opportunity... you know what they say; Blues is the international language of music.

The Twinkling Sound of the Celesta
When first looking at a celesta, one might assume that it is a miniature piano. While it looks like a piano and it works in much the same way that a piano does, it is not a piano. The celesta, or celeste, is a percussion instrument that is played by pressing the keys on the keyboard. When each key is pressed, the hammer that it is attached to strikes a metal plate, which causes the plate to vibrate and make the sound that one hears. Like the piano, the celesta has a pedal that is used to either prolong the sound or to dampen it and shorten the sound; however, there is one model of the celesta that does not have the pedal.
There are three main models of the celesta, known as the fourth octave model, the fifth octave model and the third octave model. The fourth and the fifth octave models are the ones that have the pedal that the musician can use to lengthen the vibrations or dampen the sound. The third octave model is the one that does not have the pedal.
It can be mistakenly thought that the celesta is an extremely old instrument, but it was only first created in the late 19th century. The biggest improvement or change in the construction of the celesta would probably be the metal plates. The original celestas used tuning forks instead of the metal plates that are used in more recent models.
In more recent times, during the late 1920s and on, the celesta has been adopted by many well-known jazz musicians. It was an alternative instrument for them that was perfect for the kind of music they used to play. Some musicians who used the celesta for jazz include, McCoy Tyner, Fats Waller, Spud Murphy and Johnny Costa.
Many young musicians who are new to music may not have heard of the celesta, though many musicians who have studied jazz and earlier music will be somewhat familiar with it. The few who are familiar with the celesta will often view it as an instrument from the past that no longer has a place in the music world today. While music has changed and the celesta may not be as used as much as other instruments, it still has a place. Anyone interested in jazz can easily find a place for it, though there is always the opportunity to reintroduce it into another genre if someone becomes bold enough to try.
Someone interested in the celesta would most likely have to learn outside of school, because it could be more costly to acquire than a regular brass instrument. Learning how to play the instrument is not very difficult, especially for someone who has experience in playing the piano. As is true with most instruments, regardless of how easy it is to learn how to play an instrument, practice is key to improving one's playing. It could be a very good instrument for someone who is looking for a hobby, though, someone who is looking for an instrument to perform with, could also benefit.

What would current musicians be without the foundation set by the legendary bands and classic artists that came before them?
Vivian Scott at Epic Records spoke the truth when she said that "There would be no new school without the old school". The status of "Legendary" and "Classic" when it comes to music is reserved for the best of the best. Even with thousands of bands with great music, there are always those that stand out from the rest.
If you want to discuss timeless music, Chuck Berry is one of the best places to start. Berry's hit song "Johnny B. Goode" in 1958 is so well known that I doubt any of you read the song title without singing it or hearing it play out in your head. This came from the same decade that brought you "Hound Dog" by the King himself, Elvis Presley, and "I Walk the Line" by Johnny Cash. But don't misinterpret this as age solely defines if a song is a classic. As new generations of music are ushered in, their best artists leave their mark as well. So move forward in time and you'll find: Aretha Franklin ready to teach you a little "Respect"; Van Morrison telling you what we use to sing in "Brown Eyed Girl"; and The Who, reminding you what this time period is all about with "My Generation".
With hundreds or maybe thousands of classic songs out there, no list could do justice to the these great bands. The fact that each decade has left behind it's own legends provides that generation the ability to interpret who should be on that list. Mash-ups and songs covered by newer artist prove the ability of the current generation's ability to represent the legends that inspired them. For example DJ Danger Mouse combined artist Jay-Z's "The Black Album "with The Beatle's "The White Album" to create The Grey Album; and you've probably turned the radio up as you heard the intro to Don Henley's "Boys of Summer" only to find out that it's a covered version by The Ataris.
But don't forget, many of these bands are still alive and some of them have continued producing music. You can always pick up Guitar Hero III and battle Slash from Guns N' Roses or look up tour dates for Metallica and Sting. In the music industry, it's possible to be a living legend. Just ask The Rolling Stones what it was like to rock out with the dinosaurs when you're at their next concert.
Music was once defined as the food of the soul.

[NEW RELEASE] LACOSTE - DOT 75 YEAR
Lacoste is above all a legend. The legend of a fantastic tennis player, Rene Lacoste, a member of the famous "Musketeers" team and a star of the courts of Wimbledon, Forest Hills and Roland Garros. The Four Musketeers (Jean Borot, Jacques Brugno, Henri Cochet and René Lacoste) dominated the game of tennis in the second half of the 1920s and early 1930s. They eventually led France to six straight wins (1927 through 1932) in the Davis Cup which was unheard of way back then, with Lacoste the world number one tennis player from 1926-1927. The stand out player, Lacoste, was nicknamed the "Crocodile" and "Alligator" for his hot headed attitude and eagerness to bust out into a brawl on the court. He is now better known for being the namesake and creator of the Lacoste Tennis shirt and later in 1933, the Lacoste Tennis shoe. Fast forward 75 years, and Lacoste are celebrating this momentous occasion by launching a collectible series inspired from their Tennis and Yachting heritage. Unique to the 75 year collection is the use of the original crocodile (or is it an alligator?) which originated in 1933 and is embossed onto the uppers of each shoe.
After playing for a while you may notice that your finger just wear out. If you practice a lot you may have already over come this stage of guitar playing but if your learning fast then you may be still experiencing finger and hand pains after playing a few minutes. An easy way to overcome these pains is to practice more in short burst or start using finger exercise on top of your practicing sessions. These exercises are strictly for physical exercise, musically they sound horrible and if you try to make this into songs.... just be careful.
Scales
The best way to learn theory and get in some good finger exercise time is to play scales up and down the neck over and over. Maybe start with the major scales and play them across the neck starting at the 12th fret and then working your way down to the first fret. The ultimate goal should be being able to play the scales starting on the 1st fret easily for about 5 minutes or more. The lower frets are spaced farther away so you may want to start up higher and work your way down. Don't forget you can be learning your scales at the same time while your doing this.
Staircase Exercise
This is a popular John Petrucci riff that can take you a long way. This exercise include making a staircase looking chord shape and playing the individual notes, then inverting the shape and playing it backwards. Start at the 9th fret, place a finger on E string 9th fret - A string 10th fret, D string 11th fret, and the G string 12th fret. Pluck each string from the E string to the G string. Then switch the chord shape so that your pinky is on the E string and your index is one the G string and play the individual string from the G string to the E string. After you do this move the whole shape down a fret and do the whole exercise again.
The big key to making this exercise worth while is to try and play the notes as evenly spaced as possible. If you are having troubles making each shape it might be easier if you start playing the first note of the shape before you get the whole shape fretted, it's a way of rushing your fret hand by not stopping your pick hand.
Chromatic exercises
Another great way to gain finger strength is to practice the chromatic scale up and down. Start out slow at a reasonable pace and then slowly pick up speed as you get comfortable with the exercise. This will help you to gain accuracy and keep both your hands synched up with each other.

Even a few years ago when the recording technology underwent a metamorphosis people all over the world sang out praises for the growing convenience with which music was being produced. Following the digital boom however the scene has undergone a further development. No longer do you need to queue up in front of a studio to get your little track recorded. No longer do you need to coax your parents to lend you the money for the hi-tech studio equipment you would need to turn your practice pad into a swanky recording patch. And its all because of the wonder box we have all come to know and love as the Personal Computer.
Thanks to the PC you can now not just record but also edit your own musical creations right in the comfort of your own home. All you need for the process is a proper music production software (not exactly a rare breed and available easily on a number of free download sites on the net) and some great hardware.
If your budget is permissive get yourself a proper software package for as little as a few hundred dollars. Also, acquire a good, professional-quality audio interface (which will set you back by about $100 but no more) and get your own virtual recording studio right in your garage!
If the large variety of recording softwares available in the market appears a tad bit bewildering relax, play safe and go for the best. Cubase, ProTools, Sonar, Sound Forge etc. are some of the names to reckon with in this field.
Once your track is recorded, mixed and edited, get ready for the final step of your quest - distribution. Simply upload your track on to the net. A number of sites and P2P operations allow you to upload files so take full advantage of this opportunity and show the world what you are really made of.
Once the uploading has been done use community sites such as Orkut or Facebook to advertise your creation amongst friends and others. While you are at it, encourage them to simply download music (the music being yours in this case, and the downloading being completely legal for a change).
Who knows quite how the recording industry will be affected by this recent trend. But whether it crumbles or manages to survive and flourish, you will definitely earn your own name amidst all the action. And for all you know maybe the guy next door will be humming your song while in the shower very soon!
The author is passionate about music and everything to do with it. A wannabe disc jockey, she keeps up with the latest in music production software. She has a recording studio set up in her garage.

Want to learn how to play acoustic guitar? Great! It's going to be fun and challenging and very rewarding. Acoustic guitars are beautiful instruments. They are so natural sounding and everybody likes them.
So what are your goals? Do you want to learn how to play some folk tunes and site around with your friends jamming. That's what most people want to do. They hear someone play some tunes at a party and think, "I can do that". Some people hear a song on the radio at the perfect time and it just hits them and they want to learn to play. Whatever your goals are, they can be accomplished.
The first thing you are going to want to do is learn all the open chords. This is the easiest way to start learning tunes. Bob Dylan chords are great for practice. A ton of pop songs will teach you how to use open chords and you will be able to play a familiar tune. I recommend learning tunes that you know because it will be a better feeling of accomplishment when you hear what comes out of your guitar. Some songs you may want to try are Wild Thing, Knocking on Heaven's Door, or Hey Ya!
I wouldn't try to do anything too crazy right off the bat. Just stick to the tunes that you can play using your open chords. Save the bar chords for later on. They will give you many more options, but we must crawl before we walk as they say.
Make sure that when you are strumming your new chords, you are not holding your pick too tight. You don't want to be tense in your picking hand. This takes a little getting used to because if you hold your pick too loose, then it will fall to the floor. Too tight and we get tension build up.
Also try this exercise. Play any chord. As you strum start to hold the pick tighter and tighter. You will notice as you strum up and down that the chords sound worse and worse. This is because the pick needs to graze over the strings; you don't want to kill them.
Experiment with this technique and see how much better your chords sound. And remember that these are just a couple of tips to get you started there is much more to learn about how to play acoustic guitar.

Playing bass is great, but learning to play slap bass can open up a world of new opportunities, regardless of what style you play. Stereotypically, slap bass has been relegated to funk music, but bassists in many other genres utilize this technique to their advantage as well. Perhaps the most well known example is Les Claypool. He has created a virtuosic style all his own, many times using a "double slap" technique using both his thumb and pinky to increase the speed at which he can slap.
(This is the same idea as a double bass pedal on the drums). Metal bassists, such as Fieldy from Korn and Ryan Martinie from Mudvayne have also found ways to incorporate slap bass into their sound.
And of course, who could forget the almighty Victor Wooten. Perhaps one of the greatest electric bass virtuosos of all time, Wooten has created his own techniques that give him a completely unique and characteristic sound, whether he is playing solo, or holding down the Flecktones' rhythm section.
The idea behind playing slap bass is very simple. Instead of plucking the strings with your fingers or a pick, the side of the right hand thumb is used to literally slap the string, creating a percussive sound. As with many things, this takes a minute to learn and a lifetime to master. Refining your technique comes with practice, watching, listening, and learning to the greats, such as Wooten and Claypool, or Flea from the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
So try some slap bass today and see how it can broaden your musical palette.

If you want to learn to play the guitar online from home, then you can.
On the Internet, there is a good number of resources available for anyone who wants to learn to play any type of guitar. From an electric guitar to an acoustic guitar.
You can learn to play the basics. You can learn how to fix your own personal guitar if anything needs to be fixed there. You don't need to go out to your local bookstore and buy a book. There is a lot of good info out there on the world wide web.
The one thing that I found is that while there are many online guitar lessons, some of them are not that good. Some are good and some are not. Some are even better then others.
If you have been searching on the Internet for a good, easy to use, and fun online guitar lessons you know that there is no shortage of them. There are literally hundreds and thousands of websites that all want to teach you how to play the guitar. Many of them even require a one time low fee to get an access to their web materials. That is perfectly fine because if you think about it, it would also cost you money if you were to hire a teacher who would come to your house and teach you how to play guitar.
So what can a person do when there are so many websites out there? Well, one possible way to go is to go to a major search engine like Google or Yahoo and do a search for the term "learn to play the guitar online from home". What you will then get is only about 445,000 results. You obviously don't want to go through each website. That would take you forever. Your main goal is to find a good website and start to learn to play the guitar. If you take a look at the first 5 results, you can see what they are offering.
Before you join, you will want to do some research and see if the program that you chose is cheap in price, has easy video tutorials, and is very fun to learn. You will also want to find if others have used it and what they have to say about it. You will usually find real testimonials from real people on the website.
If you were to do your own research, it would take you some time to do that. What I would suggest that you do, if you don't want to waste your time, is to visit a website like mine where I have done most of the research for you and found a great guitar playing guide that will be both easy and fun to use at the same time.
What I have included there is a step-by-step Guitar System that will show you exactly how to play like the pros.
Good luck and don't forget to have fun.
